Historically, Kopyevsky Lane ran parallel to Kuznetsky Most Street, starting from Petrovka and ending at Bolshaya Dmitrovka (formerly known as Bolshaya Georgievskaya). It was likely part of the ancient Kuznetsk settlement on the Neglinnaya River, the bed of which was enclosed in pipes around 1820, when Moscow was recovering from the Patriotic War of 1812. Today, it is called Neglinnaya Street.

The building known as the "estate of the princes Scherbatov" is believed by historians to have been constructed in the mid-18th century. It is partially depicted on a map of Moscow created by Colonel Gorikhvostov in 1767-1768.

Historical tradition links the estate on Kopyevsky Lane with two prominent figures of Russian culture. It is suggested that in the late 18th century, the estate was owned by the court herald of Empress Catherine, M.M. Scherbatov. It is also believed that the future philosopher and participant in the Patriotic War of 1812, P.Ya. Chaadaev, spent his childhood here.

The Scherbatov estate on Kopyevsky Lane has undergone numerous reconstructions. After the Patriotic War of 1812, significant renovations were carried out, during which the 18th-century building became the main house deep within the courtyard. It was raised to three stories, with a residential mezzanine on the third floor. The facade of the main house was designed in strict classicism, with a central part highlighted by a portico of Tuscan pilasters under a triangular pediment.

In 1895, under the Golitsyns, the main house of the former Scherbatov estate was closed off from Kopyevsky Lane by a revenue-generating building designed by architect V.P. Zagorsky.

For most of the 20th century, the Scherbatov and Golitsyn estate complex was used for various purposes.

In 1993 and 1995, as part of the reconstruction of the Bolshoi Theatre buildings, the main house of the Scherbatov estate was renovated. According to sources, in 1995, the historical chambers were demolished and recreated.
