The church is built in the Russian style and has a layout characteristic of the Volga region in the shape of a ship, where the refectory, main prayer hall, and altar are arranged sequentially. The main volume of the temple is a two-light square. On one side, it adjoins a rectangular apse with a faceted projection in the center, and on the other, the refectory. The church building is not plastered, and decorative brickwork is used to give the facades plastic expressiveness. On the southern and northern facades of the first tier of the square, there are doorways with semicircular finishes, framed by tall windows.

The decor of the temple includes a ribbon rustication that evenly covers the walls of all parts of the building, an attic with a series of identical semicircular kokoshniks encircling the top of the square, and the framing of arched windows made of brick projections resembling archivolts, which rest on thin semi-columns.

The church is surrounded by a high brick fence, divided by pilasters and topped with a frieze of three rows of perspective brickwork.

The history of the estate where the temple stands begins in 1858. At that time, a report was submitted to the chairman of the Department of Estates M.N. Muravyov about the necessity of building a Nicholas the Wonderworker church here to combat the schism. By decree of the Holy Synod on June 30, 1858, the construction of a temporary church was permitted. Funds for its construction were collected with difficulty, mainly from the city head merchant S. Shambarov, as well as donations from estate peasants. The wooden church, built on a stone foundation and clad in planks, was elongated from the southwest to the northeast and consisted of three parts: a square two-light square, a lowered refectory, and a rectangular narrowed apse.

The wooden church has not survived to this day. In its place, a stone temple with the same name was built, which is now in a semi-ruined state and used as a production facility.
