Even before graduating, Dmitry Mikhailovich Chelishchev worked as an assistant to the district architect and participated in the construction of income houses on Starokonyushenny and Gagarinsky lanes, earning a good reputation in the professional community.

In 1911, just after finishing the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, Chelishchev, already a well-known architect, received an order to design and construct a new income house at the intersection of Sivtsev Vrazhek Lane and Denegny Lane.

By 1913, the construction of the five-story income house, where Chelishchev himself lived with his family, was completed. The building is designed in the neoclassical style, with its facades adorned with symmetrical bay windows featuring horizontal profiles, and the central bay window accentuates the corner of the building.

Since 1913, Sergey Yesenin lived in a small room of communal apartment No. 14 with his first civil wife Anna Izryadnova, whom he met at the printing house of the “Partnership of I.D. Sytin.” Anna described her way home: “I walked along Smolensky Boulevard, then through the lane towards Arbat, turned right before Arbat, and then into the alley on the left...”. In 1914, Yesenin's son Georgy was born here, who lived in this house until his execution in 1937. After parting with Anna Izryadnova, the poet often visited his son, and in 1925, in the tiny kitchen, he burned his manuscripts before his last trip to Petrograd. In 1938-1939, Yesenin's mother, Tatiana Fedorovna, was registered here.

In the early years after the revolution, Petrovskaia's income house became a commune for Mospoligraf. In 1940, Chelishchev added another floor to it. During the Soviet era, the architect mainly focused on additions and renovations, including his own buildings.

The house is still residential. The People's Artist of Russia, film director Sergey Nikonенко, was born and raised here. He hosted Vasily Shukshin, Andrei Mironov, and many other famous writers, musicians, and actors. At Nikonенко's initiative, in 1994, the Yesenin Cultural Center was established in the house where the poet lived. The actor managed to collect unique items belonging to the poet's family. The center's exhibition reflects the entire creative and life path of the great Russian poet. Guided tours are conducted at the cultural center upon request.
