The St. Nicholas Church in Gifhorn is not only a place of worship but also an outstanding example of Russian architectural art. The builders faced many complex challenges, as many secrets of wooden architecture were lost with the departure of the previous masters. To restore this knowledge, Horst Wrobel's team created a 1:10 scale model of the building. The difficulty lay in the fact that neither the museum staff nor an experienced carpenter with twenty years of experience had skills in such construction. Despite modern technologies like machines and cranes, this project became a unique challenge for the current generation. It is amazing how our ancestors, mostly peasants, created such masterpieces with simple tools, evoking respect for their craftsmanship. Horst Wrobel and his team were astonished by what a person, driven by love for God, is capable of.

The church is adorned with eight domes, some of which are covered in gold. The structure consists of massive beams with a cross-section of 40x30 centimeters, and the longest logs reach 12 meters. More than 400 cubic meters of high-quality larch were used for the construction of the church.

The foundation of the building is in the shape of a cross, measuring 17 by 12.60 meters, which gives it a majestic appearance despite its relatively small area. The height of the church is 27 meters, and there are no crossbars inside up to the very top, creating a sense of being in a cathedral rather than a small village church.
