In 1634, a monastic community was founded on the site of the current church. The cold Church of the Meeting of the Vladimir Mother of God was built in 1685 through the efforts of Yaroslavl resident Ivan Averkiyev. The construction is linked to the bringing of the miraculous Vladimir icon of the Mother of God from Yaroslavl in 1634. Tsar Fyodor Alexeyevich, who visited Nerekhta in 1678 to venerate the icon, allocated significant funds from the treasury for the construction. In 1685, Tsar Peter Alexeyevich ordered the allocation of 250 rubles to complete the work. After the monastery was closed in 1764, the Vladimir church became a parish church.

The warm side chapel was built in 1833 with funds from unknown donors. The church is surrounded by a stone fence. It has three altars: in the cold church in honor of the Vladimir icon of the Mother of God, in the warm southern one in honor of the Meeting of the Lord, and in the northern one in the name of Archangel Michael. Two miraculous icons of the Mother of God of Vladimir are of special value.

In the 1930s, the church was closed, the bell tower was destroyed, and the miraculous icon disappeared. It was discovered in 1983. After restoration, the icon was housed in a museum, then in the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross and the Church of the Transfiguration in Nerekhta. In 2004, the complex of the Vladimir church was transferred to the Kostroma diocese, and the miraculous image of the Nerekhta icon of the Mother of God returned to the church.
