The Church of Sergius of Radonezh in the Ioanno-Predtechensky Monastery, the second church preserved from the era of the Trinity-Sergius Monastery, is dedicated to St. Sergius of Radonezh.

In 1551, a wooden church of Sergius of Radonezh was built near the Trinity Church. It was located in the center of the monastery, between the Trinity Church at the gate and the fortress wall. The church was erected simultaneously with the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin and consecrated on June 17, 1551, by Protopope Afanasy Antonov. In 1604, during Boris Godunov's reign, Pskov masters built a two-story white-stone church from limestone blocks on the site of the wooden church. This is a simple cubic church with a small dome. It was renamed the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh the Miracle Worker and was consecrated again on September 25, 1604, as confirmed by an inscription on the church wall.

The Church of Sergius of Radonezh is the last church in Russia built before the Time of Troubles. Boris Godunov, mentioned in the inscription, died under mysterious circumstances six months later. The era of impostors began, and only eight years later, Sergius of Radonezh, appearing in a dream to Kuzma Minin, called for the gathering of a militia. The surroundings of Sviyazhsk suffered greatly during the Time of Troubles, and it is unknown whether the construction of the church would have been completed if it had not been finished by the fall of 1604.

The church is an example of the architecture of Russian pillar churches of the 16th and early 17th centuries. It is built of white hewn stone. The church is located on the second floor of the monastery's refectory. The lower floor was used as a storage room, and previously monks lived there. Frescoes on the western wall depicting the Old Testament Trinity, Sergius, and Nikon have been preserved. Inside, the church is cramped due to thick walls. It has three altars, each with a separate chapel. Initially, there were two altars, but a third was added in 1796 in honor of the holy prophet John the Baptist.

Here was the main shrine of Sviyazhsk, the ancient icon of Sergius of Radonezh, the patron saint of the city. According to tradition, the icon was brought from the Trinity-Sergius Lavra in 1551, before the city's construction. Under its protection, a new Christian city was built, and Russian troops who conquered Kazan prayed before it. It is now kept in Kazan in the Church of the Yaroslavl Miracle Workers.

The Church of Sergius of Radonezh stands out with its single-tier iconostasis in the ancient Russian style. In winter, there is a reliquary with the relics of St. Herman. The architecture of the church is simple: the outer walls are almost without decoration, with deep window niches. The highest part, the southeast, has a green dome. In the northwest corner is a small bell tower. The church has no external altar projection; instead of apses, there is a straight wall. The altar is located under the dome. In the middle of the church is the brotherly refectory with a column in the center of the hall, similar to the Moscow Granovitaya Palace or the Nikolskaya Refectory Church of the Assumption Monastery.
