The church was built in 1794. Until its closure in the mid-1950s, the parish included 9 settlements: the village of Prechistoe and the villages of Pokrov, Zaozerye, Yakovkovo, Bukovo, Starovo, Kilgino, Lyubiltsovo, and Itlar. Changes in the boundaries of the Rostov district added two more villages to the parish, which were previously part of the Pereslavl district: Osteevo and Konyukovo. An old cemetery is located 100 meters from the church in the village of Prechistoe. According to local legend mentioned by A.A. Titov in the book "Rostov District of Yaroslavl Province," two wooden churches once stood on this site, destroyed by fire. The third wooden church, dismantled in 1794, was presumably located where the current stone church stands. A new cemetery is located 500 meters from the church.

In 1962, the Gorky Film Studio filmed the atheistic comedy "The End of the World" in the village of Prechistoe, after which the church began to be looted and destroyed.

On the picturesque bank of the Nerl River, the 18th-century church gradually fell into ruin. Thanks to the efforts of concerned individuals, this process was halted, and in October 2011, Metropolitan Panteleimon of Yaroslavl and Rostov appointed a rector to the church. Much work lies ahead: registration of the community, arranging part of the church for services, numerous construction works, and the revival of parish life.
