In the history of the city of Parfenevo, churches played a significant role. In earlier times, they were built of wood and served for about 80-100 years. Only in the early 18th century were they replaced by brick ones. Typically, churches were erected on high hills, of which there were plenty in Parfenevo. The layout of the historical part of the city has been preserved since the 19th century, although it shows traces of a more ancient irregular layout. The churches of Parfenevo are of particular interest: the Resurrection Cathedral, the Church of the Assumption, and the Church of the Nativity of Christ.

On the hill by the stream Techera stands the Nativity Church, on the site of which there was a monastery in the early 17th century called "Nativity, which is on the pits of the Black Grove on the River Nee." It stood in a wooded ravine with pits on either side and, according to D.F. Belorukov, had a gloomy appearance. The monastery was poor and had neither arable nor haymaking lands, owning only a small plot of barren land. The monks survived on alms and the burial of townspeople. The monastery was closed in 1725 after the death of the last abbot, Hieromonk Safroniy, and was placed under the protection of the cathedral church. The monastery was founded during the reign of Mikhail Fyodorovich, and his son Alexei Mikhailovich, who saw support in religion, made contributions to the monastery. In honor of the tsar, an altar for Alexei, a man of God, was arranged in the monastery church. This was the only monastery in the Parfenevo siege, and the clergy, townspeople, landowners, and gentry supported it as the center of spiritual life in the area. In 1717, a new church was built on the site of the old one through joint efforts, but its opening was delayed due to a lack of funds. In 1720, the church was completed and consecrated. Documents testify to the existence of three ancient icons within it: the Nativity of Christ, All Who Sorrow, and the Unfading Flower, the fate of which is unknown. Behind the Nativity Church were the houses of the clergy.

The brick church in the style of late classicism, close to exemplary projects, was built in 1842. It is a single-domed temple with a two-altar refectory and bell tower, with the altars of the Annunciation and Alexei. It was closed no later than the 1930s, and the bell tower was destroyed. It is currently vacant.
