In 1836, the residents of the village of Vilovatoye built a wooden church. The church complex also included a parish school and houses for the clergy.

By the end of the 19th century, the wooden church had become too cramped. In 1900, the parishioners requested permission to build a stone church designed for 1500 people. Construction began that same year with donations from parishioners and funds from the Buzuluk merchant Vasily Tikhonovich Prokhorov.

The construction of the stone church lasted more than ten years and was completed in 1914. Six years later, the church was closed, the clergy were dispersed, and there were attempts to blow up the building.

In the 1930s, activists gathered signatures to close the parish, and many villagers were forced to sign the petition. Merchant Prokhorov, who participated in the construction of the church, was arrested and executed. In 1944, according to the recollections of an old-timer, there were attempts to blow up the church to use the bricks for building an airfield. The military fired cannon shots, destroying the dome, one wall of the bell tower, the winter baptismal, and the entrance to the bell tower. The church could not be completely destroyed. The building was used as a grain storage facility and a parking lot for tractors. Icons were piled in the northern chapel, while the Shroud and the Altar remained untouched even during the grain deliveries. The bells were removed during the war. On holidays, villagers would come to the closed church and sing prayers.

Since 1991, thanks to Archbishop Eusebius Savvin, the St. Michael the Archangel parish was opened in the village of Vilovatoye. In 1993, local residents began restoring the church, and the first services were held in the church.

In 2001, Bishop Sergey blessed Hierodeacon Alexey Medvedev to serve in the village. The first year and a half of services were held almost without parishioners. Now Father Alexey, who has become an archimandrite, continues to serve in the church. Thanks to his efforts and the help of local residents, the church began to revive: the central dome was installed, the roof was repaired, an iconostasis was set up, doors were replaced, and the interior walls were whitewashed. The number of parishioners has significantly increased, and now people come to the church not only from Samara and the region but from all over Russia.
