Church of the Korsun Icon of the Mother of God in Sergiev Posad

The Korsun Church in the village of Glinkovo was built between 1825 and 1834. Before that, there was a wooden church here, which had significantly deteriorated by the early 19th century. Funds for the construction of the new church were collected by the parishioners.

The brick church is designed in the Empire style, with simple and monumental forms. The building's decor is restrained and minimalist. The domed rotunda rises above the two-light square with one apse, adorned with side Doric porticos. This is a typical rural cult building from the early 19th century. A refectory with a chapel of the Twelve Apostles is attached to the western part of the square, divided by two columns supporting two transverse arches. The absence of a bell tower unifies the composition of the building; it was added in 1840 but was destroyed during the Soviet era. The walls of the refectory and altar are covered with square rustication up to two-thirds. The windows are located in arched niches, aligning with the axes of the building. The cornices are made of wood.

In the 1930s, the church was closed to worshippers. The building became overgrown with extensions and was used as a production facility for the firm 'Tiaprom,' known as a chemical plant. As a result, the building deteriorated, and some of the 19th-century wall oil paintings were partially lost. In the late 20th century, Archimandrite German Chesnokov spent over 10 years seeking permission to restore the church.

Only in 2010 was the church returned to the faithful, and in 2011, it was consecrated. The church has now been restored and holds services. It houses the miraculous image of the Korsun Icon of the Mother of God, a copy of the original painted by the holy apostle Luke. This is the only church in the Sergiev Posad district where a procession is held daily after morning and evening services.
