The Church of John the Theologian is located in the center of Orenburg. It is a single-domed stone church with a small refectory and bell tower, and its apse is quadrangular. The temple was built and consecrated in 1902 with funds from parishioners and college registrar Istomin I.S., as well as archpriest Semyonov. Initially, the building served both as a church and a women's church-parish school. In 1905, at the request of the parishioners, the school was moved to another building, and a wooden bell tower was erected on the church grounds. In the 1930s, the temple was closed, and the bell tower was demolished.

The restoration of the church began in 1996 after the building was transferred to the diocese. In 2002, the church was consecrated again, although restoration continued. In 2007, a new stone bell tower was built, and until 2009, work on the church's frescoes was ongoing. Today, the Church of John the Theologian has been restored to its original appearance and is used for its intended purpose. It is a historical and Orthodox landmark of Orenburg.
