The first mention of the Elijah Church appears in the Hundred Book of 1630. It states: "Beyond the stockade, upstream on the Sukhona River, stands a wooden church of Elijah the Prophet, as well as a warm wooden church of Zosima and Savvatiy of Solovetsky, miracle workers. The churches contain icons, books, candles, vestments, church vessels, bells, and all worldly church structures belonging to the parishioners." The churches had a wooden bell tower with six bells. The construction of the stone Elijah Church lasted from 1695 to 1745. The cold temple, the second floor, was consecrated on August 18, 1695, in honor of the holy prophet Elijah. The warm temple, the first floor, was consecrated on July 16, 1745, in the name of the Sign of the Mother of God. The construction of the second floor and the bell tower began in 1736. In the altar iconostasis of the warm temple were ancient icons: to the right of the royal gates, the image of the Sign of the Mother of God in a copper-silvered vestment, to the left, the image of Zosima and Savvatiy of Solovetsky, likely from the wooden church, as well as the image of the Savior behind the right choir and the image of the holy prophet Elijah, painted in the ancient Kyiv style, also likely from the wooden church. In 1918, by the decision of the city executive committee, the church was transferred for use as a production enterprise. On March 12, 1930, they began to remove the bells from the bell tower, and on June 23, they started dismantling and destroying the iconostasis of the Elijah Church.
