According to one version, the chapel was built in the 18th century on the site of the altar of an old wooden church. Local historian P.V. Kudryavtsev, who visited the chapel multiple times, the last time in 1957, wrote the following about it: "There is a legend that the village of Yuryevsk got its name because Prince Yuri Vsevolodovich died here in a battle against the Tatars. His burial site on the battlefield is marked by a small chapel. Of course, this chapel has not survived since those times. Inside the chapel are remnants of a limestone gravestone with an inscription in Slavic cursive. Unfortunately, the stone is broken into several pieces, and some of them are lost, making it difficult to read the inscription. It seems that no specialists have examined or described the Yuryevsk chapel. The condition of the chapel indicates its imminent destruction." The chapel also housed an image of Prince Yuri. Under the image of the saint, there was presumably an inscription stating that Prince Yuri Vsevolodovich was killed by Batu at the Sita River, and his body was buried in the Vladimir Cathedral. The image was created no earlier than the 19th century. In July 1977, the chapel was moved to an open-air museum in the town of Myshkin. According to legend, under the stone lay the body of Prince Yuri until Bishop Kirill of Rostov transported it to Rostov and placed it in the Cathedral of the Mother of God, and two years later the prince was buried in Vladimir. However, specialists believe that the stone dates back to the 18th century and is not related to Yuri's burial. The remnants of the stone and the icon disappeared from the chapel before its relocation.

On July 23, 2005, in the village of Yuryevsk, a new chapel was erected on the site of the former tent chapel, created by local carpenter masters in honor of the righteous Prince George of Vladimir and in memory of the battle on the Sita River. Since then, every summer on the days of remembrance of the heroes of the Sita battle, a solemn service is held at the chapel, after which a procession begins to the white stone stele near the village of Lopatino.
