Ayu-Dag (Bear Mountain, Crimea)

Фото 1
Long ago, there were no people on the Crimean coast, and only animals inhabited the peninsula. There were especially many huge and fierce bears here. One day, the wreckage of a ship washed ashore, among which the bears found a bundle with a little girl. The leader decided to keep her. The girl grew up among the bears and became their beloved. She grew into a beautiful young woman and could touch even the harshest bear's heart with her wonderful songs.

One day, she noticed a boat on the shore, in which lay a weakened young man. He had escaped from slavery in a foreign land but could not reach his native shores due to a strong storm. The girl hid the young man and took care of him for a long time. He told her about his homeland, where many people live, joyfully communicating with each other.

The girl was enchanted by the young man and his stories, and they decided to sail away together. When the young man regained his strength, they made a sail for the boat and set off on their journey. The bears, returning from a long expedition, saw their beloved in the distance on the sea and became furious. They began to greedily drink water, trying to bring the boat back to shore. Realizing that her beloved was in danger, the girl sang her most beautiful songs, pleading with the bears to leave them alone. The animals stopped drinking and listened to her in a trance. Only the leader of the pack remained in the water, but even he stopped drinking. Thus, the huge bear lay in the sea, watching the departing boat. Over time, his head and body turned to stone, his sides became steep cliffs, and he was covered with forest 'fur.'
