In the late 1890s, the estate of rubber goods merchant Karl Augustovich Meyer was built on 2nd Maryinsky Lane. Karl, also known as Konstantin, owned several Russian-American galosh shops in central Moscow, including Kuznetsky Most, Kamergersky, and Gazetny Lanes.

The main house and the wing of the estate were designed by architect Maximilian Karlovich Geppener, who had German roots. His own house was located nearby.

At the time of the mansion's construction, Chernyshevsky (2nd Maryinsky) Lane was completely new and built only on one side. The houses were situated on a hill by a large pond formed by the Neglinka River. Until the 1890s, this land belonged to the Mariinsky Hospital. The pond existed until 1916.

The windows of Meyer’s mansion are adorned with the owner's monogram “S.M.” The Latin letters, representing the owner's name and surname, often misled locals who believed the house belonged to Savva Morozov.

The wing of Meyer’s house has its own history. Built simultaneously with the main house, in the early 20th century it served as a meeting place for the Surikov Literary Circle, which brought together writers and musicians from the people. The main meetings of the circle were held on Sadovnichesky Embankment, but the apartment of the chairman S. Koshkarov-Zareviy was located on Bozhedomka, and the circle members often gathered in the wing of Meyer’s estate. There is a version that Meyer’s wife, Adele, organized a literary café in the wing.

In 1912, the circle was actively attended by poet Sergey Yesenin. In 2008, the wing of Meyer’s estate became a branch of the Yesenin Museum in Moscow and was decorated with a bas-relief portrait of the poet. The old windows of the wing preserved the glazing designed by Geppener.

This interesting mansion attracted the attention of filmmakers. It can be seen in the film “The Adolescent,” based on F.M. Dostoevsky's novel, as well as in “Office Romance” by director E. Ryazanov, where the main character, Novoseltsev, lives.
