In the second half of the 19th century, at the initiative of Yekaterinburg merchant P.V. Holkin, a estate was built consisting of six brick buildings: a hotel, a restaurant with a shop, a residential house, a billiard room, a wing, and a stable.

The estate was located on a large rectangular plot, where the buildings were grouped along the southern and northern borders. All structures were connected by a high brick fence and three-part gates with a passage and two side gates leading to Rosa Luxemburg Street. These impressive buildings played a key role in the appearance of this part of the block.

The hotel originally had 18 rooms, but by the early 20th century, their number increased to 26. The "American Hotel" was considered one of the most prestigious and expensive in pre-revolutionary Yekaterinburg. It featured bathrooms, a billiard room, and the restaurant's chef was a well-known Muscovite. In addition to the restaurant, there was a café and a pastry shop at the hotel. Since foreign guests were often present, both Russian and foreign newspapers and magazines were offered. The cost of accommodation ranged from 80 kopecks to 4 rubles per day, while the average price for a room in the city was from 75 kopecks to 2 rubles.

The building of the former "American Hotel" is also notable for the fact that in 1918, the Ural Extraordinary Commission for the Struggle Against Counter-Revolution and Sabotage was located here. On July 12, 1918, a meeting was held in room No. 3 of this building, where the decision to eliminate the royal family was made.

The interiors of the building have partially survived, which is rare, as 19th-century buildings often undergo renovations, and the stucco is either covered or removed, while the facade may remain unchanged.
