In the 1880s, thanks to the initiative of N.V. Sklifosovsky, the construction of the Clinical Town of Moscow University began at Devichye Pole. The first building was the Obstetric Clinic, built with funds from Elizaveta Vasilyevna Paskhalova, the daughter of wealthy manufacturer V.V. Nosov, and named after her.

The obstetric department was located in the right wing of the building on Yelanskogo Street, while the left wing housed the Gynecological Clinic, built with funds from Timofey Savvich Morozov, the owner of the Nikolskaya manufactory, and also named in his honor.

Architect K.M. Bykovsky designed the clinic building, as well as most others at Devichye Pole. Professor V.F. Snegirev, the founder of Russian gynecology, and Professor A.M. Makeev, an obstetrician-gynecologist and doctor of medicine, participated in the design.

Later, V.F. Snegirev headed the Gynecological Clinic, while A.M. Makeev led the Obstetric Clinic. The building facing Yelanskogo Street had a monolithic facade and opened up a view of the University Town leading to the Novodevichy Convent.

At the time of its opening, both clinics occupied a single two-story building with a rusticated first floor and two entrances. The central part included a common auditorium in the form of an amphitheater, with a two-story window framed by rusticated pilasters. The building was separated from the road by flowerbeds.

In 1937-39, the building was expanded and redesigned according to the project of architect A.V. Barulin. At that time, the clinic received a six-column portico at the central entrance. From the side of Yelanskogo Street, the building retained its monolithic appearance, while from the side of the Alley of Life, it has two wings and a semicircular projection in the center.

In 1947, the clinic was named after its first director V.F. Snegirev, and in 1973, a monument to Snegirev, created by sculptor S.T. Konenkov, was installed at the entrance.
