The village is located along the Petropavlovsky tract, on the shore of the large Itkul lake, surrounded by forests and swamps, in an area unfavorable for the health of its residents. The soil in the region is diverse: partially black soil, but predominantly clayey. Until 1840, this place was uninhabited until settlers from the Okhansky and Kungursky districts of the Perm province arrived, founding a settlement named after the first settler. Soon, villages such as Zhikina, Shaburova, and Nikolskaya appeared in the same manner.

All the new villages were part of the Kargapol parish, but since 1862 they became an independent parish, to which the village of Tukmannaya from the Mekhonsky parish joined.

The first wooden church in the village was built between 1862 and 1865 and consecrated on March 20, 1865, in the name of Saint Archangel Michael. Initially, the iconostasis was old, from a Balkan church, but in 1886 it was replaced with a new one, thanks to the efforts of the parishioners.

In 1876, the church was clad on the outside, and in 1878 it was plastered on the inside. By 1895, the building had become dilapidated, as noted by the local archpriest in his report for 1894. The diocesan authorities suggested that urgent repairs be undertaken.

In 1896, a technician was invited to inspect the church, who concluded that a major renovation was necessary, the cost of which was comparable to building a new wooden church. Upon learning this, the parishioners refused the repairs and the construction of a new church. When the parishioners' decision became known to the diocesan authorities, the Yekaterinburg Spiritual Consistory ordered the immediate construction of a new church and the formation of a construction commission. This decree was announced to the parishioners of the Zhitnikovskaya church.

On January 8, 1897, at a church-parish meeting, a decision was made to build a new wooden church in the village of Zhitnikovskoye, and a construction commission was elected. By the end of 1897, the commission had raised 500 rubles for the church's construction, of which 200 rubles were donated by Father Ioann Sergeyev. The commission petitioned for the free release of 1500 logs from the best forest and drafted a construction plan, which was approved that same year.

However, the parishioners decided to build a stone church, and on March 22, 1898, a new plan was drawn up, after which the foundation of the church began. The main building of the Church of Archangel Michael is a quadrangular structure with cut corners, adorned with five domes, a bell tower, and chapels in an eclectic style. The parish included a church-parish school and two schools from neighboring villages: Tukmannaya and Zhikina, as well as chapels in the villages of Nikolskaya, Shaburova, and Zhikina.

The church was closed no later than the 1930s and was returned to the faithful and renovated in the 1990s.
