The first mention of a wooden church in honor of the prophet Elijah in the village of Podgory dates back to 1640, the first half of the 17th century. In 1860, the construction of a brick building began to replace the wooden one. The construction of the brick church was completed in 1890. In the early 1930s, the church was closed, the building was partially destroyed, and the remaining part was used for other purposes.

Since 1993, an Orthodox parish of the church of the prophet Elijah has been operating in the village. In October of the same year, the head of the administration of the Volzhsky district, Vasily Yavon, signed a decree granting the Samara diocese ownership of 0.49 hectares of land in the village of Podgory.

The restoration of the partially destroyed church began in 1998. By May 2003, the church was restored, adorned with red domes symbolizing the fiery chariot of the prophet Elijah, on which golden crosses were installed. On June 10, 2003, the first Divine Liturgy in the last eighty years took place in the church, and from that moment on, services became regular.

In the fall of 2004, the construction of a wooden church in honor of the Samara saint, the holy martyr Konstantin Sukhov, began in the monastery. On October 22, 2007, Archbishop Sergey conducted the great consecration of the church and the first Divine Liturgy.

Since 2005, daily services have been held in the Ilyinsky church according to the full statutory order, and the Unceasing Psalter is read around the clock here. Later, the skete was transformed into the Zavolzhsky Holy Ilyinsky Women's Monastery. Small cell buildings, an abbot's house, and a house for clergy have been built in the monastery. The construction of a domestic church in honor of the great martyr Anastasia the Deliverer has been completed in the abbot's house.
