Zalogina Estate

Фото 1
The ancient estate is located at the corner of Nikoloyamskaya Street and Shelaputinsky Lane and was founded in the mid-18th century. The one-story house on a high foundation was built in 1754 by merchant Fyodor Ptitsyn, who acquired this property in 1738 and expanded it by purchasing neighboring plots.

The house is a typical example of residential construction of that time. It is positioned gable-end to the street, emphasizing its antiquity. The interior walls divide the space into four parts. The original staircase to the main floor was destroyed during the construction of a new building in 1837. The building has well-preserved exterior finishes in the style of developed Moscow Baroque. The corners of the building and the junctions of the interior walls are marked by paired pilasters. The windows with arched finishes and Baroque moldings stand out clearly against the blue background of the walls. During the restoration in 1967, the characteristic tent roof of the era and the bright coloring of the walls were restored. In the 1760s, another three-story building was constructed at the corner of the lane, also gable-end to the street. Its facade along the lane is adorned with delicate decor of mature classicism with pseudo-Gothic elements. It is possible that a factory belonging to the estate's owners, the Shelaputins, was located here in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Both houses are connected by a low fence with a gate in the middle.

In 1834, the estate was acquired from the Shelaputins by merchant Agafya Mikhailovna Zalogina. In 1874, architect D.A. Koritsky remodeled the western wing facing Shelaputinsky Lane for her, decorating it with eclectic decor. The gable end of the building received a pediment above the three central windows, adorned with floral garlands connecting the pilasters with small capitals. The Zalogins owned a small silk factory in the Rogozhskaya area, which was located in the estate buildings, remaining in their possession until the revolution.
