Once in the town of Tutayev, now located in the Yaroslavl region, there stood an impressive estate with unusual Moorish towers for this area. It belonged to the famous merchant Sergey Sorokin. The reason for choosing such a style remains a mystery, but there is an interesting version. It is said that the entrepreneur visited the Nizhny Novgorod Industrial Exhibition in 1896, where he saw a pavilion that he liked very much. He decided to transport it to his homeland. The pavilion was purchased, disassembled, and delivered to Yaroslavl via the Volga.

For the decoration of the estate, Sorokin invited the best carvers and architects in the region. The first floor was laid with oak and pine parquet, the facade was adorned with mirrored glass, and plumbing was installed in the building, which at that time was considered a luxury. The outbuildings were built in a unified style: a carriage house, barns, a laundry, a coachman's house, and a stable. Opposite the estate was a small fountain, and behind it, closer to the river, were verandas, gazebos, and tables for outdoor relaxation. The estate stood in this form until 1918, when it was nationalized, and the owner was evicted.

Fortunately, the local authorities did not destroy the estate. During the Soviet era, it first housed a rest house, and later a pioneer camp. Everything was more or less in order until the 2000s, when the building began to deteriorate rapidly. Local activists tried to save the estate and proposed options for its restoration, but nothing was done. Now, only ruins remain of the estate, and yet another monument of our architecture has disappeared from the face of the earth. Such a pity!
