Mid-19th Century Estate: Main House

Фото 1
In the alleys of Presnya on Three Mountains, the spirit of Old Moscow still endures with its calm rhythm of life and architecture that harmonizes with people. Here you can see cozy mansions and urban estates that, despite losses and numerous reconstructions, have survived to this day. One such estate is the house at ownership No. 8 on the winding Upper Prechistenka Lane.

According to the Unified State Register of Cultural Heritage Sites of Russia, this urban estate has the status of a federal significance ensemble, which was granted to it by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin in February 1995. Prior to that, since 1992, it was listed as a local significance monument by the decision of the Presidium of the Moscow City Council.

The ensemble includes the Main House (building 1) and two service wings (buildings 3 and 4). Building 2, adjacent to the Main House on the left, was built in 1927 and is not considered a monument.

The main estate house dates back to the mid-19th century. Its most famous owner was Ivan Nikolaevich Tsvetukhin (1838, 1899), an actual state councilor buried at Vagankovo Cemetery. Surprisingly, antique auctions still feature books from his personal library with an ownership stamp: "Ivan Nikolaevich Tsvetukhin, Presnya, near the Church of John the Baptist, his house, Moscow." Tsvetukhin owned the estate from 1870 to 1899, and it was during his time that it acquired its current appearance.

Among other owners were Ekaterina Bystroglazova, the wife of artillery colonel Nikanor Bystroglazov (from 1850 to 1860), the widow of I.N. Tsvetukhin Maria Alexandrovna (from 1900 to 1906), and then Dmitry Kuzmin until 1917.

The house has been rebuilt several times in accordance with architectural fashion: in the 1860s, in 1874, and in the 1880s. Despite the pseudo-Baroque decor of the eclectic era, the classical layout is still visible: a low basement floor and a grand residential floor with high windows. The central part of the facade is highlighted by pilasters and three windows. To the symmetrical facade with seven window axes, an entrance porch is attached on the left, and above the cornice is a decorative attic with a keel-shaped finish.

In 2009, the house underwent a major reconstruction restoring the historical appearance of the main facade.

Currently, it houses a medical institution.
