Фото 1
The Annenkov estate in the village of Karmanovo, located in the Zheleznogorsk district, was built in the second half of the 19th century. It was later transferred to the Mikhailov merchant Minaev for a card debt.

Since 1686, the settlement belonged to the noble family of Annenkovs. In that year, Gerasim Akimovich Annenkov purchased 68 quarters of land in the name of his son from the widow P.M. Karmanova. In 1688, he received another 25 quarters from Moisey Karmanov. In 1691, the estate was officially measured and delineated to Gerasim and his son Pyotr Annenkov, as well as Agafya Karmanova in the Kursk district. It included 107 quarters of land, 5 desyatins for estates and pastures, 55 desyatins of arable land, and 26 desyatins of hay meadows.

The Annenkovs owned the village until the end of the 19th century. Ivan Petrovich Annenkov built a stone Trinity church in Karmanovo, consecrated in 1758, after which the settlement received the status of a village. He also erected stone chambers and laid out a regular garden with fruit trees. In the 18th century, serfs cultivated 520 desyatins of land for their lords, and 491 desyatins for themselves.

In 1813, Pyotr Ivanovich Annenkov owned 270 male peasants, totaling about 500 people. By 1835, the population had increased to 867 people in 74 households.

By the end of the 19th century, the lands and forests around Karmanovo began to be purchased by the Mikhailov merchant Mikhail Minaev, and his son Grigory continued the business. In the early 20th century, the village had one of the richest beekeeping farms with 200 bee families. Minaev's estate was famous for its forestry plantations and nurseries. Grigory Mikhailovich owned 2115 desyatins of land, with 800 desyatins under forest and garden. On the estate's territory, there was a horse breeding farm with more than 50 horses, as well as a steam mill, a grain separator, and a cheese factory. While conducting meteorological observations, he collaborated with the Kursk provincial bureau.

With the arrival of Soviet power in 1918, all land and forest holdings were confiscated from Minaev, and he was arrested and executed in Oryol in 1919. In the 1920s, a state farm was established in Karmanovo, which lasted for almost ten years.

During the Great Patriotic War, on February 13, 1943, soldiers of the 498th rifle regiment of the 132nd rifle division, commanded by Colonel T.K. Shkrylev, entered Karmanovo. Many Soviet soldiers died in the battles for the village. In a mass grave on the territory of the village, 196 warriors are buried, of which only 43 surnames have been established.

Today, the Karmanovo forestry is located here. Its employees take care of the territory, restored the house, decorated it with carved patterns, and opened a forest museum. They have also planted more than 300 species of plants, organizing a dendropark.
