If you drive along the Ryazan-Chelyabinsk highway, near Spasskoye, you can catch a glimpse of the silhouette of a real castle through the roadside trees. Then the trees part, and a majestic panorama unfolds before you: an estate with staircases and bridges, fountains, beautiful gardens, and then trees and bushes reappear. If you pass by, stop and take a close look at this splendor.

This estate complex was built in the late 19th century by Sergey Pavlovich von Derwies, the son of a railway magnate. He aimed to create not only an impressive house with rich decor but also to transform the territory into a personal 'paradise.' The estate was designed in the popular style of Russian Art Nouveau by Fyodor Shekhtel, and it took on the appearance of a knight's castle. A huge eagle, seemingly supporting the balcony with its wings, attracted special attention. All the buildings are harmoniously woven into the estate's territory and connected by well-kept alleys, bridges, fountains, and gazebos. Additionally, a luxurious riding hall was built at the entrance to the estate.

Even then, the von Derwies estate was considered a landmark of the Ryazan region. He lived here for about 15 years until he sold it in 1908 to Prince Konstantin Gorchakov, who did not live there himself and only visited occasionally. After the revolution that shook all of Russia, the estate went through tough times, and many decorative elements were lost. Fortunately, it was saved by being repurposed first into an agricultural school and then into a pioneer camp. Today, the former property of Derwies is included in the list of cultural heritage of the Ryazan region.
