Seventeen kilometers from Kursk, in the village of Zherebcovo in the Kursk district, on a steep bend of the Kouritsa River, lies the oldest estate in the Kursk region, the Annenkov estate, a monument of 18th-century architecture.

In 1752, after a fire destroyed the old wooden structure, Ivan Petrovich Annenkov erected a brick house. He built an impressive building: a two-story plastered house on a high basement, executed in a strict classical style. The estate has a U-shaped plan, consisting of a rectangular main building and two stair risalits. The main building measures 32 by 22 meters, and around it is a park with fountains and alleys of various tree species. Nearby, a pond was dug, all situated on a plot of 5.5 hectares.

According to historical data, Ivan Petrovich Annenkov came from the Oryol branch of the Annenkov family and was born no later than 1711. He was an educated man with diverse interests, having amassed an extensive library. Annenkov held a high position and actively participated in the life of the Kursk province, financing the construction of the Resurrection stone church in the village of Polyansky, gathering information about the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God 'Znamenie' and testimonies of its miraculous healings.

Ivan Annenkov also kept personal diaries in which he described his anxieties and experiences, affairs and concerns, troubles in the fields, family celebrations, nature, and weather. These records became a kind of chronicle of the Kursk land, and their handwritten originals are still kept in the regional local history museum. For example, he recounts the appearance of a white crow at the estate, describes the birth of deformities, and testifies to weather anomalies: 'Once in February it rained and nettles turned green, and on May 27 frosts hit.'

Over time and with the change of eras, the descendants of Pyotr Ivanovich Annenkov owned the estate until the first half of the 19th century, after which the estate changed hands several times. The last owner was the noblewoman Olga Petrovna Kusheleva, who, fearing a peasant uprising in 1906, left the village and two years later mortgaged the estate to a bank, which sold it off in parts.

During Soviet power, before the arrival of Denikin's forces in the autumn of 1919, the estate housed a local commune 'Brotherhood'. By the early 1920s, the house had suffered greatly and was not in use, but after repairs in 1923-1929, it became the 'Rest House for Railway Workers'. Local residents were unhappy with the presence of vacationers, and the director of the Rest House even had to defend himself from them with a pistol.

After 1932, the building was occupied by a school. During the war, the roof of the main house was destroyed, but after liberation, by September 1943, with the participation of German prisoners of war, the house was repaired, and it housed the Zherebcovo four-year school, and by the end of the 1940s, a ten-year secondary school. In 1982, a new building for the school was constructed in the village of Polyansky, and since then the estate has been forgotten.
