In 1673, at the confluence of the Kuda and Urik rivers, Russian settlers began to receive the first land plots, founding a small settlement. Over time, the Urik sloboda developed and strengthened, and by 1680 it already had 16 households. Soon, a church and a priest's house appeared in the sloboda.

The village of Urik became known throughout Russia after the Decembrist uprising of 1825. After their exile, many of them were allowed to remain in Siberia for permanent settlement, and Urik became their unofficial capital. Notable residents included S.G. Volkonsky and his wife, N.A. Panov, M.S. Lunin, Alexander and Nikita Muravyov. It was here that Volkonsky's wife, M.N. Volkonskaya, opened a school for peasant girls, where they were taught literacy and handicrafts.

S.P. Trubetskoy and other Decembrists frequently visited Urik.

In 1873, the first church parish school opened at the village church, becoming the first official educational institution in Urik.

The Decembrists actively participated in the lives of the local peasants. Many of them learned to read and count, and became aware of life in the European part of Russia. The memory of the Decembrists is preserved to this day. Streets are named after them, and a permanent exhibition dedicated to that era operates in the local history museum.
