The Uglich Tower of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery is located in the Epiphany Square in Yaroslavl. This stone tower was built in 1636 on the site of a wooden predecessor. It is situated on the southeast side and controlled the passage along the Uglich tract, which is how it got its name. Externally, the Uglich watchtower resembles the northwestern Bogoroditskaya tower, which has the same square cross-section but features arched entrance gates. Although the entrance to the Uglich tower has long been bricked up, its outlines are still visible due to the preserved traces of the arched opening inside. At the top of the tower, under the roof, there are slit loopholes that allowed for shooting arrows and spears at the enemy if necessary. Recently, the walls of the tower were plastered and whitewashed, and the entrance arch was closed with wooden arched false shutters. In the 17th century, the perimeter of the monastery's enclosure, surrounded by a deep water moat, was nearly a kilometer long. A fragment of the fortress wall, ten meters high and three meters thick, still adjoins the southern side of the tower, testifying to the strength of the fortification.
