The two-story building in Saratov at the corner of the modern streets Gorky and Kiselev was built in 1874 and belonged to the family of milling magnates Reineke. Initially, it remained unfinished. In 1880, the building was acquired by industrialist Emmanuel Ivanovich Borel, who established the "E.I. Borel Trading House" in it.

In the early 20th century, Borel added a third floor and updated the facade in accordance with fashion trends. The front part of the building was faced with glazed bricks and adorned with elegant bas-reliefs, making it one of the architectural landmarks of Saratov.

After the October Revolution of 1917, the building, like the rest of the Borel family's property, was confiscated. Today, it houses the old building of the law institute.

Before the revolution, this spacious building housed the reputable firm "A. Erlanger and Co," which supplied agricultural tools and materials to Saratov, paying Borel a significant percentage of the turnover for its convenient location in the city center. In the early 20th century, the Northern Bank also operated here.
