Tambov Post Office

Фото 1
In Tambov, an interesting confusion has arisen regarding the age of the old main post office building. The facade indicates the year 1786, which many consider to be the year of construction. However, this date is not present in pre-revolutionary photographs; it is mentioned only in a description from 1805: "Built in 1786, but was rebuilt and has not retained its original appearance."

Local historians assert that the description refers not to the post office, but to a two-story stone house for the postal service of the governorate, the construction of which began in 1784 on the banks of the Studenets River, west of the now non-existent Trinity-Nikolsky Church. Historians and archaeologists believe that the current post office was built in the 1860s.
