The Taimyr Local History Museum was founded on September 4, 1937, by the decision of the Presidium of the Taimyr District Executive Committee in the city of Dudinka, Krasnoyarsk Krai. It is the northernmost state museum in this vast region. The museum's collections and exhibitions attract great interest from residents, visitors to the city, museum specialists, and scholars from both Russia and abroad.

In April 2009, the museum moved to a new building designed by Krasnoyarsk architect A. V. Kuritsyn. For three years, museum staff, along with artists and designers from the St. Petersburg company ZAO 'Raritet', worked on creating a new exhibition, which was opened in May 2011. The exhibition area of the museum is 1,172.5 square meters and is dedicated to the centuries-old history of the development of Taimyr, geographical discoveries and explorers of the North, as well as the unique culture of indigenous peoples and the nature of the peninsula.

The museum's collections number over 84,000 exhibits, including unique items that have no analogs in the world. The museum is visited by about 20,000 people annually. For 14 years, it has been headed by Olga Pavlovna Korneyeva, Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation and Taimyr. The museum actively engages in scientific research, publishing, and educational activities, organizing more than 30 exhibitions each year, including from the collections of major Russian museums such as the Museum of Armed Forces and the Museum of the East in Moscow.

The museum maintains close ties with scholars and research centers in Russia, as well as with archives. Its scientific library is popular among researchers of history, culture, and local studies. A souvenir kiosk operates in the museum's foyer, where printed materials and souvenirs can be purchased. Today, the Taimyr Local History Museum is a recognized scientific and cultural-educational center that actively develops innovative forms of engagement with visitors, remaining attractive to a wide audience.
