The first church in the village of Kulachinskoye was built in 1751, when Ivan Kruglov and his fellow villagers constructed a wooden church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. In the early 20th century, a stone church appeared here, but it did not last long: during the Soviet years, it was closed and destroyed.

The restoration of the church began only in 1988. Even then, novices started gathering in the church, who later became the foundation of the future monastery. In 1995, the St. Nicholas Monastery was officially established. Now, believers refer to it as a prayerful temple and come here from afar. Monk Evgeny shares that in recent years, two icons in the church have been renewed. The icon of St. George the Victorious, which was completely dark, has begun to reveal itself, and now individual details can even be distinguished. A few years ago, the icon of the Mother of God was found to be myrrh-streaming.

Many pilgrims visit the St. Nicholas Monastery to immerse themselves in the Life-Giving Mother of God spring, located one and a half kilometers from the monastery. It is said that the water from this spring brings great relief to people with musculoskeletal disorders.

During Epiphany, so many believers come to Bolshie Kulachy that a real temporary town is created for visitors. Thousands of people gather holy water from the spring and immerse themselves in the ice hole.
