The St. George Cathedral, also known as the cathedral in honor of the great martyr George "za verkhom," was built in 1701. According to legend, it was overseen by the local elder Ivan Kirillovich Korobov. In the local dialect, "verkh" means ravine, which explains the name related to the features of the terrain. The church is designed in the "Moscow Baroque" style and is distinguished by its slender proportions and rich architectural decoration. The exterior decor has been almost completely preserved.

The building is made of stone, two stories high, with a four-pitched roof and five domes. The upper floor features galleries supported by four Roman arches, through which light enters the windows of the lower floor. Initially, the galleries were open, but in 1776 they were covered with a roof supported by five quadrangular columns on each side. After the Great Patriotic War, the galleries were glazed. Stairs on both sides lead to the second floor and galleries.

The altar is a single space with a traditional three-part division. The upper church was painted in 1766-1767, as confirmed by inscriptions in the altar and on the walls. During the restoration in 1880-1881, the painting was washed and renewed, and then it was repeatedly updated. The iconostasis of the upper church is five-tiered and made in the "Moscow Baroque" style.

On the second floor, there is an altar in honor of the Elevation of the Holy Cross. On the first floor, there are three altars: the southern in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Heal My Sorrows," the northern in the name of John the Baptist, and the main in the name of the great martyr George the Victorious.

The bell tower of the cathedral is designed in a style common in the 17th century, with an octagon on a three-tiered square base and a high tent. On the roof, double quadrangular and round dormer windows are symmetrically arranged.

From 1926 to 1999, the George Church held cathedral status while the Holy Trinity Cathedral was closed. After its restoration, the church remained a cathedral. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the George Church was visited by the righteous St. John of Kronstadt.

Since 2007, the church of St. George the Victorious has been officially transferred to the Orthodox Church.
