The Holy Trinity Church in Novorossiysk has a rich history that began in 1893 with the construction of a wooden church in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow." Church-parish schools for men and women were opened. In 1900, when the Zatsemesskaya side became part of Novorossiysk, the church was too small for all the parishioners. Since 1899, fundraising for a new building began. In 1901, 1000 rubles from royal funds were allocated for the construction of a stone church.

On December 10, 1906, the main altar was solemnly consecrated in honor of the Holy Trinity. The church was built from hewn sandstone and field stone, using over 150 cubic meters in total. The building was plastered only on the inside, and its light gray walls appeared white from a distance. The cross on the bell tower rose nearly thirty meters high. The church was visible not only from any point in the city but also from the sea, serving as a landmark for sailors.

The church had a main altar dedicated to the Trinity and a chapel dedicated to the Sorrowful Mother, which is why it was called the Trinity-Sorrowful Church. Since it is often referred to as a cathedral in documents, several priests conducted services. The names of priests serving since 1912 are known: Ioann Sudnitsky, Nikolai Sobolev, Alexander Bobrov, Petr Dobrov, Nikolai Deinikovsky, Dionysius Kurbatov, Vasily Perepelitsa, Petr Otdelnov.

In 1938, services in the church ceased and resumed only in September 1942, after Novorossiysk was occupied by German fascist troops. Parishioners prayed for Russia's victory, while underground activists distributed leaflets among them. Soon after Easter that same year, the German command ordered the suspension of services to protect the population from Bolshevik shelling. In 1945, the church building was turned into a warehouse for a military unit.

In 1951, a decision was made to dismantle the Holy Trinity Church due to its emergency condition. In 1957, it was blown up, and in 1963, the first wide-format cinema in the city, "Rodina," was built on this site.
