The temple complex in the village of Prokhorovka was created in memory of the Prokhorovka tank battle and in honor of the 50th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This major battle took place on July 12, 1943, the day when the Church commemorates the saints Peter and Paul, which is why the memorial church is consecrated in their honor.

The cornerstone was blessed on June 14, 1992, by Archbishop Juvenaly of Kursk and Belgorod. On November 23, 1993, the board of trustees "Prokhorovskoye Pole" was established to support the construction of the memorial complex. The chief architect of the project was D.S. Sokolov, the chief engineer was E.N. Popov, and the chief designer was S.A. Belov from the Architectural and Artistic Workshops of Danilov Monastery. In the church, the names of eight and a half thousand warriors who fell near Prokhorovka are inscribed in golden letters on white marble slabs. The consecration of the church was conducted by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and all Russia on May 3, 1995. In 2000, the painting of the church was completed, which took one and a half years by a team of icon painters led by A.S. Rabotnov, a member of the Union of Artists of Russia.

The temple complex also includes a rotunda with the Bell of Unity, built at the initiative of Archbishop John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol and Governor of Belgorod Region E.S. Savchenko. On each pylon of the rotunda, saints particularly revered by the three Slavic peoples are depicted: Saint Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Prince Vladimir, Venerable Sergius of Radonezh, and Venerable Euphrosinia of Polotsk. The bell was cast in Moscow, and the words of Venerable Sergius of Radonezh are inscribed on its upper belt: "We will be saved by love and unity." On May 3, 2000, after the Divine Liturgy in the church of Saints Peter and Paul, the Bell of Unity of the Slavic peoples was consecrated by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and all Russia in the presence of the presidents of Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus.
