The Michael-Archangel Church, presumably built in 1854 on Mikhailovskaya Square, was wooden and modest in appearance. It was named in honor of the heavenly patron of the city's founder, M.S. Vorontsov. In June 1860, the construction of a stone cathedral in the name of the Archangel Michael began, designed by Prince Gagarin. The contractors were Kamyshov and Dubensky, and a special committee led by Colonel E. Salstet oversaw the construction. This cathedral was erected in memory of the illustrious prince M.S. Vorontsov, the founder of the city.

The construction of the cathedral was completed in the autumn of 1865, and it was consecrated in December. The five-domed cathedral in Byzantine style had three altars and chapels in honor of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos and the Apostle John the Theologian. Its dimensions were 20 fathoms in length, 13.5 fathoms in width, and 20 fathoms in height. It was the most majestic cathedral in the northern Kuban region. In 1890, a bell tower was completed, the largest bell of which weighed 508 poods.

Since 1867, a parish school operated at the cathedral. In 1878, with funds from merchant Afanasy Bolgov, a building for the church parish school was constructed. Among the benefactors of the cathedral were Yeysk merchants: Afanasy Bolgov, Alexey and Afanasy Pishkovs, Roman Salogub, Fedot Lopata, and others.

In 1922, during the confiscation of church valuables, Bishop of Yeysk Eusebius, later canonized as a new martyr, ordered the alarm bells to be rung, which led to clashes between the faithful and the authorities. Some believers, including Bishop Eusebius, were convicted. In 1932, the domes were removed from the cathedral, and a dance floor was set up on the roof. In 1938, the cathedral was completely demolished, with only the guardhouse remaining, which housed a library.

In the 1990s, the restoration of the St. Michael the Archangel Church began on the site of the library. The first services were held in 1997, and in the early 21st century, nearby were built a church in honor of St. Blessed Xenia of Petersburg, a chapel in honor of St. Blessed Matrona of Moscow, and a House of Mercy for the elderly.
