Intercession Cathedral in Novomikhailovka

The construction of the large brick Intercession Cathedral began in 1903 and was completed in 1911-1912.

Local residents recount that the bricks for the monastery's construction were delivered from the village of Pokrovka, where the firing kilns of landowner Durasov N.N. were located. Later, similar kilns were set up near the construction site, using local clay. To improve the quality of the bricks, chicken eggs and sheep blood, purchased from local residents, were added to the clay. The floors of the cathedral were laid with hexagonal ceramic tiles from Kharkiv. Subsequently, the monastery developed and was arranged mainly thanks to the efforts of the Ennat family landowners, whose graves have been lost near the altar of the cathedral.

At the end of 1917, the monastery settlement was looted. In the early 1920s, the monastery was closed, its property was requisitioned and plundered, and the monastery was transformed into a 'labor commune.' However, the church continued to function until 1924. Later, the monastery buildings housed a warehouse, a colony, a school for communist youth, and a tractor school, and during the Great Patriotic War, it served as an orphanage for evacuated children. During this period, the smaller monastery churches were destroyed. Later, the wooden cell buildings were dismantled and transported to Fedorovka and Dedovo for use as residential and utility premises.

In 2005, the restoration of the cathedral began. There was much work to be done: the roof, domes, windows, and floors were missing. Almost all the plaster had fallen off over the hundred years, and the remaining plaster was damp and would come off at the slightest touch. Only two icons on the choir remained from the previous decoration, but they collapsed during an attempt to frame them. In the summer of 2005, the domes of the cathedral were restored.

The restoration of this huge cathedral, consecrated in honor of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, was only completed seven years later. A significant role in the revival of the monastery was played by the abbot of the monastery, Archimandrite Nikolai Chernyshov. The cathedral was repainted by icon painter Vladimir Nikanorov with his daughter and sons. The interior of the cathedral impresses with its beauty: soft blue walls, elegant plaster patterns on the ceiling, wall paintings, an impressive dome, a splendid iconostasis, gilded monograms, and lamps. A tremendous amount of work was done: for example, to create the delicate plasterwork on the ceilings and walls, 25 tons of gypsum were used, which were lifted and laid by hand.

The restoration of the cathedral was completed in 2012, marking its 100th anniversary. The central chapel of the cathedral in honor of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos was consecrated on September 25, 2012. The left chapel in honor of Saint Zosima of Ennat was consecrated on June 27, 2017. The right chapel is dedicated to all saints who have shone in the land of Ufa.

The main shrine of the Intercession Cathedral is the reliquary with the relics of Saint Zosima of Ennat. The relics are housed in the cathedral during the summer period: from Bright Easter until the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos.
