The warm church was originally built in 1698 by Ivan Andreev and dedicated to Saint Alexius, Metropolitan of Moscow. In 1734, an altar was added on the southern side of the church, dedicated to the Three Hierarchs: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom.

In 1863-1864, the church was reconstructed and became a three-altar church. The main altar was consecrated in honor of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, the right altar in honor of Saint Alexius, Metropolitan of Moscow, while the left altar had not yet been consecrated at that time.

On January 5, 2017, the church of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God was consecrated in Ulyanovsk on the territory of the reviving Spassky Monastery. The consecration was conducted by Metropolitan Anastasius of Simbirsk and Novospassky.

The revival of the Spassky Monastery is one of the largest projects for the restoration of destroyed and the construction of new churches in the region, initiated by Sergey Morozov in collaboration with the Simbirsk Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The restoration of the Novodevichy Monastery began in 2015 when one of the four surviving monastery buildings was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church in Pozharny Lane. The initiative to revive the monastery was taken up by the well-known businessman and philanthropist Igor Lyubchenkov. Together with his associates, they quickly restored and effectively rebuilt the interior of the building, which previously housed various departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Currently, this building of the women's monastery houses a home church in honor of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God.
