Building number 11 on Rossolimo Street in Moscow attracts attention with its pre-revolutionary architecture, but its true value lies elsewhere. Here, outstanding figures of culture and art were treated, such as Sergey Yesenin, Dmitry Pyatnitsky, sculptor Anna Golubkina, artist Mikhail Vrubel, and world chess champion Wilhelm Steinitz. The history of the clinic begins with a tragedy: the husband of merchant Varvara Morozova suffered from a serious nervous disorder. Varvara, with the support of doctor Sergey Korsakov, cared for him until his death. The loss of her husband was a tremendous blow for her, and she decided to allocate significant funds to create the best psychiatric hospital in Moscow.

Varvara Morozova invested 400,000 rubles in the project, which was a huge sum at the time. They built not only treatment facilities but also laid out a garden, purchased linen, furniture, medical instruments, dishes, and much more. The wards were designed to be as comfortable as possible for the patients. The director of the clinic became Sergey Korsakov, who implemented a new treatment system based on the 'unconstrained' approach for patients. The hospital did not use straitjackets or solitary confinement. Korsakov believed it was important to distract patients from their illnesses through creativity: they could draw, write stories, and stage plays. Once, they even invited Leo Tolstoy to a performance by the patients.

There were other entertainments at the hospital as well. When Wilhelm Steinitz was undergoing treatment, chess became very popular among the patients. Notable personalities also contributed to the creative atmosphere of the clinic. Sculptor Anna Golubkina, experiencing loneliness, organized a sculpting club, while Mikhail Vrubel painted portraits of the staff, which are now kept in the Tretyakov Gallery. In December 1925, Sergey Yesenin was treated here, according to some sources for depression, and according to others, for alcoholism. Unfortunately, the treatment did not yield the expected results, and shortly after his discharge, he took his own life at the Angleterre Hotel.
