The ancient Nikolai-Berlyukovsky Monastery, founded in 1719, is located just a few dozen kilometers from Moscow. However, the history of monastic life at this site began during the period of the Russian Troubles. After the Romanovs came to power, the monastery received support from the royal dynasty. Over time, the monastery changed, experiencing both positive and negative moments, and in the 19th century, it acquired the structures that have survived to this day. During the Soviet period, many buildings were destroyed and have not yet been restored.

In the 2000s, it was decided to commemorate the contribution of the Romanovs to the history of the monastery by creating a unique Romanov Alley with about twenty monuments to representatives of this dynasty. The alley begins with monuments to the first Romanovs, including Mikhail Romanov, his son, and grandsons (notably, the monument to Peter the Great is absent, only his brothers are represented), and is conditionally completed with monuments to the royal martyrs: Nicholas II and his family, as well as Elizabeth Feodorovna and her husband, Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich, who was killed on February 17, 1905. Currently, funds are being raised to create monuments to the daughters of the last Russian emperor. Thus, the traditions and history of the Nikolai-Berlyukovsky Monastery continue to live on today.
