The Koygorodsky Local History Museum was officially opened on December 23, 1976. The idea for its creation belongs to Pavel Prokopyevich Sharapov, who spent several years collecting items, photographs, and documents that became the foundation for the museum's future exhibition.

The collection of exhibits began in 1973, with materials gathered from all over the Koygorodsky district, especially in the village of Koygorodok. The museum opened its doors in 1975. In 1992, it was transferred to the jurisdiction of the culture department of the Koygorodsky district executive committee.

Currently, the museum is managed by the Department of Culture, Physical Culture, and Sports of the Koygorodsky municipal district administration. It is the only museum in the district. The building covers an area of 290.1 sq. m, of which 250.1 sq. m is allocated for exhibitions and displays, while 40 sq. m is occupied by storage facilities.
