In 1914, the Ministry of Public Education decided to provide the city administration with funds for the construction of the Pushkin School, which opened that same year.

After the revolution, the school was transformed into the Soviet Unified Labor School of the second stage, where K. E. Tsiolkovsky taught physics from 1919 to 1921. In 1924, the school was assigned number 12, and in 1930 it was given back number 6, which it retains to this day. After Kaluga was liberated, classes at the school resumed only in 1944. Until 1954, the school was for girls, and from the 1954/55 academic year it became co-educational. Since 2006, it has been named after A.S. Pushkin.
