Pugachev's Tent in Saransk is located at 48 Moskovskaya Street, next to the historic building of the Three Saints Church, where a local history museum was housed until recently. This tent is the only remnant of a large house that was dismantled in the 19th century.
It is the oldest civil building in the city, erected in the late 17th to early 18th century. In 1774, when Emelyan Pugachev captured Saransk, he settled in this house. Here he lived, as befits the ataman of the rebel people, administered justice, proclaimed manifestos, and held feasts. Few structures related to these events have survived, and Pugachev's Tent is one of them.
