The noble family of the Olsufievs is known not only in Russian history but also beyond its borders. Today we will discuss their magnificent mansion on Povarskaya Street, which belonged to the family until 1917. Povarskaya Street is still famous for its architectural beauty, but among all the buildings stands out a large white mansion with an interesting history. This two-story house was built long before the revolution and passed to the Olsufievs in the 1890s. It was acquired by Countess Alexandra Andreyevna Olsufieva, the wife of the famous General Alexei Vasilyevich Olsufiev, an influential figure of his time.

The mansion on Povarskaya Street is known thanks to the memories of many visitors, as Masonic meetings were held there. Alexei Vasilyevich was a well-known Mason, yet he enjoyed the favor of the royal family. According to some sources, he even hosted Emperor Alexander III in this house, although it is difficult to confirm this with absolute certainty.

After the Bolshevik Revolution, the Olsufiev family left Russia. By that time, the owner of the mansion had already passed away, and his widow with children emigrated. All the property of the counts was confiscated by the state, except for what had already been looted. Today, the house has been restored and continues to attract the attention of passersby.
