St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, one of the most revered saints in Russian tradition. In the 4th century, he lived in Lycia, an ancient land, and was the bishop of the city of Myra, which is now called Demre and is located in Turkey. Today, the relics of the saint are kept in the Italian city of Bari, in the Basilica of St. Nicholas. It is here that the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is located, which will be discussed.

The history of its creation began in 1911, when the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society established the Bargrad Committee. The main idea was to create a place for the shelter of pilgrims from Russia and to meet their needs. The project was sponsored by Nicholas II.

Church donations were collected throughout the country. The main capital consisted of funds previously raised for the restoration of the church in Myra of Lycia. However, due to prolonged negotiations and a lack of clear prospects, this money was redirected to the new project.

To purchase land in Italy, Archpriest Ioann Vostorgov went, who acquired a plot of 1.2 hectares. The design was entrusted to Alexey Shchusev, a well-known specialist in ancient Russian church architecture, while the work was overseen by engineer N. Rikko. In the winter of 1913, a wooden church was consecrated, and by the summer of 1914, the premises could accommodate 20 to 30 people. During World War I, the shelter became a point for refugees, but work continued. The first stone buildings were completed by 1921.

After the revolution, disputes over the ownership of the church began, and in 1937 it came under the jurisdiction of the Italian authorities. Only 75 years later, on January 23, 2012, the building of the compound was finally transferred to Russia and the Russian Orthodox Church.

The church consists of two altars: the upper and the lower. Among the relics is an icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker with a particle of his relics. The territory includes a garden, a chapel, a priest's house, a guesthouse, and utility rooms.
