On May 27, 1802, a police expedition was established in Yekaterinodar, consisting of thirty "internal service Cossacks" to perform guard and fire duties. However, at that time, there were neither carts nor firefighting tools. Only after 23 years did the fire brigade receive barrels of water, hooks, shields, pikes, and axes to respond to fires promptly. Thus, May 17 (29), 1825, is considered the founding day of the Yekaterinodar fire brigade.

As the city grew, fires began to occur on the outskirts, and they were not visible from the center. This led to the necessity of building a watchtower, a kalancha. In 1842, at the corner of Krasnaya and Ekaterininskaya streets (now Mira), a cart yard was created, and a five-story kalancha was erected, where a guard was on duty around the clock.

This wooden structure towered over the city, allowing it to be seen like the palm of a hand. In case of a fire, if the wind blew towards the city, a trumpeter from the kalancha warned the residents of the danger, and all citizens had to rush to help with buckets or other improvised means. If the wind blew the other way, the trumpeter would descend from the tower and head with the cart to the fire, signaling that the city was not in danger and no assistance was needed.

The kalancha stood for ten years and began to deteriorate, requiring major repairs, for which funds were allocated. In 1867, Yekaterinodar became a civil city, and the fire service came under the jurisdiction of the City Duma.

To ensure the fire cart, the Yekaterinodar Duma introduced a fee of 25 kopecks for each chimney. With these funds, two fire engines with a set of watering hoses were purchased. At that time, most buildings in the city were wooden with straw or reed roofs, which often led to entire blocks burning down, and the work of firefighters faced much criticism.

In 1895, an eight-story brick kalancha was built, which also served as a water tower with a tank of 8,000 buckets. This was the only tall building, and excursions were conducted to its observation deck.

In 1906, Grigory Danilovich Klochan became the fire chief, under whom the skill and efficiency of the fire brigade improved. However, after the February Revolution, Klochan retired, and the team began to disband.

In 1921, the team was revived under the leadership of Alexander Alexandrovich Borchevsky. The first fire station moved from the corner of Krasnaya and Ekaterininskaya to the intersection of Ekaterininskaya and Kotlyarovskaya, where it remains today.

The brick kalancha at the former Fire Yard gradually lost its significance with the development of telephony. In 1929-1930, a four-story communal house was built at the corner of Krasnaya and Ekaterininskaya (Mira), closing the kalancha from view.

In 1942-1943, both the house and the kalancha were damaged by fire. In the 1950s, the house was restored and adorned with a corner turret with a clock, while the kalancha was dismantled for bricks. For a long time, only the base remained, but it was eventually demolished as well.
