On the eastern side of the kremlin, the Burnt Tower has been preserved. Its height is 24 meters, length 12 meters, and width 8 meters. The thickness of the walls at the base reaches 2.9 meters, while at the top, it is 1.85 meters. The tower has five floors, one of which is underground and hidden beneath the ground. The sixth tier of the tower featured a gallery with battlements resembling a swallow's tail, just like the battlements of the walls. The height of these battlements is 2.5 meters, and the width is 1.44 meters. The tower is topped with a four-pitched tent roof.

On the eastern side of the kremlin, the Burnt Tower had four "twin" towers, of which three have survived to this day: Spasskaya, Semyonovskaya, and Yamskaya.

The name Burnt Tower was given due to frequent fires in the past. It was also called Alexeyevskaya in honor of the Church of Alexius, the Man of God, which was previously located nearby in the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery. Although the monastery was destroyed, the tower retained its name. The street Levshina begins from the Burnt Tower, which was called Alexeyevskaya until October 1921.
