The monument to the saint martyr hieromonk Kuksha of Pechersk from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was installed near the Trinity Cathedral in the City Park of Culture and Recreation. It was consecrated on August 9, 2014, by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia after a festive service at the Trinity Cathedral in honor of the Day of Remembrance of Kuksha.

The idea to create such a monument in Kaluga emerged in the mid-2000s. The sculpture with the canonical image of Kuksha was created by Alexey Leonov.

Saint Kuksha is known as an enlightener and baptizer of the Vyatichs, who lived along the Oka River, in the territory of modern Kaluga and Oryol regions. He arrived from Kyiv to preach Christianity, for which he was martyred. It is believed that he was executed near the city of Serenks, now in the Meshchovsky District of Kaluga Region. According to another version, Kuksha was killed in the Mtsensk District of Oryol Province. However, the installation of the monument in Kaluga and its consecration by the Patriarch became an important argument in favor of Kaluga in the long-standing dispute between the Kaluga and Oryol regions, which has been ongoing since the 19th century.
