The conning tower of submarine S-13 at the military equipment exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin is located deep within the territory, away from other exhibits. It is not as noticeable as the La-7 aircraft and is not as striking. Painted in dark gray, the color of the cold northern sea, the conning tower stands among the trees under a cloudy sky.

A full-size replica of the submarine would take up too much space, as its length is nearly 80 meters. This is about the same length as the entire row of military equipment displayed along the Kremlin wall. The ship would not fit into the overall composition of the exhibition. However, it is important to highlight at the exhibition "Gorky Residents, to the Front" the submarine built at the "Krasnoe Sormovo" factory.

Submarines of the "S, medium" series were built before the war at several factories, including "Krasnoe Sormovo." These submarines participated in combat operations as part of the Baltic and Northern fleets. In the Baltic, their actions were complicated by shallow waters and a large number of mines. S-13 became the only submarine of this class in its fleet to survive until the end of the war, while the others perished, mostly by hitting mines. It was on S-13 that the legendary submariner Alexander Marinesko made his voyages in the Baltic. In the north, Soviet submarines operated more successfully in open ocean conditions.
