In the French commune of Honfleur, a monument to the dog Mumu, the heroine of Ivan Turgenev's story, has been erected. The sculpture can be considered a corner of Russia in France. The author of the work is Russian sculptor Vladimir Tsessler, and the initiative for its installation came from director Yuri Grymov. The choice of location is not accidental: it was in Honfleur that Ivan Turgenev met Guy de Maupassant. It is believed that the dog is located where Maupassant allegedly tried to drown himself, although there is no documentary evidence for this.

During the filming of the movie "Mu-Mu," Grymov sent a letter to the mayor of Honfleur proposing to install the monument, not expecting a quick response. However, permission came almost immediately: "We agree. Come. Install it."

Grymov admitted that he initially wanted to place the monument in Moscow, but public organizations opposed this. In Honfleur, however, the sad little dog was well-received by the locals.
