Vorontsov, according to his contemporaries, was depicted with a noticeable portrait resemblance, in a mantle and holding a field marshal's staff. His face is turned towards the city's main street, Deribasovskaya.

Three sides of the pedestal feature bas-reliefs.

"Krayon 1814" recalls the events of the war in France before Napoleon's abdication, when Vorontsov led the Russian army and held back the enemy's advance.

"Varna 1828" depicts the moment when the enemies surrender the fortress keys of Varna during the Russo-Turkish war, with Vorontsov at the center.

Another bas-relief commemorates the rapid development of agriculture and trade under Vorontsov.

On the fourth side was an inscription: "To the Most Illustrious Prince Mikhail Semenovich Vorontsov, grateful compatriots. 1863."

After the cathedral's destruction in 1936, the inscription was replaced with an epigram by Pushkin:

"Half-lord, half-merchant,
Half-wise man, half-ignoramus,
half-scoundrel, but there is hope,
That he will finally be whole."

Today, the former inscription "from grateful compatriots" has regained its place.

M.S. Vorontsov highly valued the significance of the Novorossiysk region for Russia and actively contributed to its development.

He sought to make Odessa not only a major trading center but also a cultural hub. Under Vorontsov, the ensemble of Primorsky Boulevard was created, becoming the "calling card of Odessa."
